Charles Nelson's Sharps carbine has not only seen hard service riding up and down the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it appears to have seen some neglect over the years as well, much like Mr. Nelson's headstone photo found on the Post War page. I am presently undertaking the slow process of preservation but find it a slow go. It will never look as it did when Pvt. Nelson carried it but it will eventually look better than it does today. As always with most of these arms, under the forearm there is some gorgeous bluing. Here are the long promised new photos of Pvt. Nelson's carbine with all its warts. All photographs of Pvt. Charles Nelson's New Model 1863 Sharps carbine are courtesy of the Dutchman.
